Jonah succeeds in what he set out to do. He removes himself from the presence of God. Now he is drowning; he is dying. Yet God extends undeserved grace. He rescues Jonah. We learn that there is this reality of the presence of a God who loves in all of that brokenness. The grace of God is seen here hundreds of years before Jesus. We see it all through the Bible. This is the message. There is not an Old Testament God and a New Testament God. Salvation. Deliverance. Forgiveness. Grace comes from God undeserved for people like us.
